MFA Oil awarded the Howell County Sheriff’s Office a $2,000 grant check to help them acquire their first training Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Drone. Each year, MFA Oil provides cash grants to support non-profit organizations, aiming to strengthen and develop rural communities through valuable resources.
The newly established Drone Unit at the Howell County Sheriff’s Office will consist of two deputies: Talon Millard and Nicholas Bruno. This unit will be trained to perform various tasks, including:
– Surveillance: Monitoring large areas for suspicious activities, such as illegal gatherings or drug transactions.
– Search and Rescue: Assisting in locating missing persons or suspects in expansive areas, particularly in difficult terrains or adverse weather.
– Documenting Crime Scenes: Capturing evidence at crime scenes or accident sites.
– Supporting SWAT or Bomb Squad: Providing assistance to SWAT teams or bomb squads when needed.
– Responding to Shots Fired: Quickly addressing reports of gunfire.
– Overwatch: Offering a broader view of the scene to protect officers on the ground.
– Large Event Security: Ensuring safety at major events.
This grant application was submitted in September 2024 by Sheriff-Elect Matt Roberts in an effort to aid the Howell County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Brent Campbell plans to purchase two thermal drones before his term as Sheriff ends, and the new Drone Unit members have training school reservations for January, 2025.
