Zizzers win in round one of Willard Classic 83-73, to Mansfield

The West Plains Zizzers played their first game in The Willard Basketball Classic Tournament this past Thursday night and won their first round versus the Willard Tigers by a score of 83-73

1st Quarter:  Clayton Robbins for the Zizzers with the tip. Zizzers take a 4-0 lead after two good shots by Moore and Montgomery. This changes and The Mansfield Lions trail by one as Grubbs puts up the good three ball. Riley Stidham also gets a basket for the Lions as the Zizzers make yet another turnover. Lions now lead by two. Jacob Moore travels to the Line for the Zizzers. He makes 2-2. Stidham also shoots at the line for the lions and makes 3-3. Though the Lions continue their two point lead, Jacob Moore continues to make some headway for the Zizzers as they tie it at 10 points. Landon Montgomery scores on the jumper for the Zizzers as they jump out to a 15-12 lead. However, Zizzers are racking up the fouls as they have 5 team fouls. Mansfield attempted to make some passes but they unfortunately slipped out. At the end of  the Quarter, Score is 17-19.

2nd Quarter: Jacob Moore hits double figures in scoring as he lays in another bucket. Jace Headrick almost fouls on a tip in for Mansfield but makes it, he still gets the credit as they get two more points. The ball is stolen from behind by Montgomery and tries a good layup, but doesn’t make it. Stidham for Mansfield does the same but once again doesn’t make it. This makes the fifth turnover for the Mansfield Lions in the first half. Caleb Cobb with another bucket for the Zizzers and a good three for Clayton Robbins. Kellen Campbell scores on a layup for the Lions. Lay in for Patillo for the Zizzers. Overall, Zizzers are vastly able to outrun Zizzers down the floor.

Halftime- West Plains Zizzers: 39/ Mansfield Lions: 27

3rd Quarter: Pruetts shoots for Mansfield but fouls. Clayton Robbins continues his scoring streak for the Zizzers as he makes 2-2 at the line. Rebound Mansfield but commits their ninth turnover. Zizzers, particularly Robbins, is making major headway with layups and wide open charges. This works in the Zizzers’ favor as they stay up 59-45.

4th Quarter: Stidham shoots a wide open three to start the quarter for Mansfield. Montgomery, Moore and Riley all score on the continued charge as the Zizzers are now up by seventeen. 70-54 with five minutes to go, Mansfield managed to make three fouls within the quarter. Fisher Croney scores at the throw line for the Mansfield Lions, this plus a few other plays by Stidham and Campbell. Turnover Zizzer, but Campbell fouls. Patillo goes to the Line to shoot the 1-1 and makes it. Both teams fouled slightly more in this back half 75-64 with 2:23 to go. By this point, Clayton Robbins has scored a grand total of 25 points during the entirety of the game. Twenty eight as Robbins makes several more free throws. The Lions continue to attempt a steal but pick up another foul which has been the case on most of their steal attempts in the Quarter.
