The West Plains Zizzer Boys Basketball team played third place in the 37th annual Willard Basketball Classic this Saturday, December 6th, 2024 versus the Glendale Falcons. The Falcons beat the Zizzers by a score of 73-65
1st Quarter: Fletcher for the Glendale falcons with the first bucket of the game as they take an early 2-0 lead. Another bucket by Mar”kel Houtson for Glendale as Glendale goes up two more. A layup for Clayton Robbins puts the Zizzers on the board and a three by Fletcher. The score is now 6-2. A foul on Jason Seitz after trying a steal puts Josiah Long for the Zizzers at the line, he makes 1-2. Mar’kel Houston for the Falcons continues to score on putbacks as Zizzers are still having tough luck in trying to get a steal. Seitz scores after coming back in for the Falcons on a putback. 13-9 the Score now with 3:37 to go as Glendale continues to hold the lead. Jacob Moore scores his fourth point of the game after a bucket earlier. It’s now 13-11. Ethan Tuma also manages to score his fifth point at the Buzzer. Glendale leads at the end 17-11.
2nd Quarter: Jacob Moore manages to get the ball up and in on a pass. A series of fouls for Landon Montgomery for the Zizzers and free throws for Elias Stainback for the Falcons evens the score up to 19-15. Glendale continues to hold the Zizzers to at least two in the first half. Seitz also manages to get quite a bit of steals and handoffs to Fletcher who still is having luck getting the ball in underneath the basket. Landon Montgomery shoots a three is able to get the Zizzers out of the hole, even more as Jacob Moore get the putback. After a time out, Glendale tries to fight back but commits another turnover. A three ball by Tuma who now has eight points and gives the Zizzers a one point lead. Anthony Fletcher gets it back for the Falcons and scores on an easy layup. Stainback tries the three, no good. Rebound Montgomery and shoots and scores giving the Zizzers three more. Jared Kraft with the rebound and scores his sixth point of the game right at the buzzer. 3rd Quarter: Josiah Long shoots and scores on a layup and a three pointer by Robbins. Josiah Long is leading the hustle for the Zizzers and scores again bringing the ZIzzers out to 4. 40-36 the score after Mar’Kel Houston shoots one for the Falcons. Rebound Jared Kraft who scores on a classic ten-footer. It took about 2:58 seconds for the Zizzers to outscore the Falcons 10-4. Fletcher for the Falcons shoots two after fouling Josiah Long, this narrows the Zizzer lead. Clayton Robbins who already scored another previous layup with that 2:58 streak scores again tries to regain the lead after getting the ball stolen by Fetcher who has put the Falcons back up by 4. Zizzers do cause Falcons to foul with 2:08 to go and get the ball back. Jared Kraft goes for the three but rebounded by Fletcher. Fletcher gives it to Houston who scores on the layup. Landon Montgomery shoots and scores after a steal and evens the Falcon lead to 50-47. Rebound Seitz who answers back.
4th Quarter: A block in the block sends Seitz for the Falcons to shoot at the line who makes two but is stolen by Jared Kraft for the Zizzers and up and in for three. MarKel Houston puts one up and in underneath for the Falcons. Right handed layup good on rebound by Richardson for the Falcons as the Falcons hold on by seven. A pass play inside to Kraft is successful as Zizzers come within four. Josiah Long with a foul and Mar’Kel Houston goes back to the line for the Falcons. None of the attempts are successful. Kraft with the wide open three shoots the Zizzers to a two point trail. Foul on the play for Anthony Fletcher as Clayton Robbins tries for two but once again, none of the attempts were sucessful. A fifth foul puts Josiah Long out of the game as Fletcher shoots two. He makes 1-2 at the line. Jared Kraft goes to the line after fouling Seitz and also is unable to make his free throws. Zizzers now 0-4 at the free-throw line in the last quarter. A putback with a 1:30 to go for Mar’Kel Houston and rebounded by Houston. Zizzers are not having any luck at all as the Falcons are now up by ten. Jared Kraft makes a three. Mar”kel seems to be having such good luck as Zizzers are not blocking him. Landon Montgomery makes a three. But a foul for Jared Kraft stops the clock. Mar’Kel tries for two Moore but makes 0-2. Zizzers cannot help but continue fouling as Rover is put at the line for the Falcons and Jared Kraft seems to be the only one who may be able to pull out a win or a tie for the Zizzers. This changes as now he fouls and Anthony Fletcher makes one at the line for the Falcons. 73-65 with under 30 seconds to go in the game. This score holds as Zizzers try to buy as much time as they can but inevitably can’t pull it out FINAL SCORE- Glendale Falcons: 73/ West Plains Zizzers: 65
