The Liberty Lady Eagles faced the Bunker Lady Eagles on Friday night, December 13th, 2024 following the games between both the JV & Varsity Boys teams. The Liberty Lady Eagles won the game by a Score of 64-54.
1st Quarter: Hadley Chowning takes the charge for the Liberty Lady Eagles, passes to Jozie Tharp who puts it up and in, putting Liberty on the board first. Rebound Kinsey Barton who scores. But rebound Ella Phipps who puts it in. Kinsey Barton gets it back for the Bunker Eagles who tries another high, two hander but falls and injures herself under the net. With help Barton gets up and unfortunately comes out of the game for the Bunker Lady Eagles. Liberty takes back for a moment as they have a one point lead, but the ball is taken back by Bunker. Hailey Turnbough for Bunker scores on an easy scoop shot as now Bunker leads by one. Hadley Chowning takes it back for Liberty and scores on a one-hander. Rebound fought for, last touch by Bunker. Ella Phipps gets it back, almost passes to Chowning but shoots a good three. Another pass to Chowning, but back to Phipps and another three pointer. Liberty Eagles lead 13–6. Once again three more for Phipps after a Bunker timeout off another pass by Chowning. Turnbull steals it back for Bunker and scores on a layup. A foul call and the ball stays with the Liberty Eagles. Liberty continues to stay with the ball, Chowning almost scores on a layup but is able to go to the line instead. Hadley Chowning makes 2-2 free throws at the line as Liberty now as an 18-8 lead. A foul call on Bunker and Cailie Sutton shoots two free throws. Another three pointer after Kinsey Barton comes back in. Stolen back by Hadley Chowning and put in on an easy layup. Another foul on Liberty and Cailie Sutton goes back to the line and makes one free throw. Quarter ends with score, Liberty: 22/ Bunker: 12
2nd Quarter: Hadley Chowning with a good three pointer to start off the quarter for Liberty. A foul call and Hailey Turnbough goes back to the line for Bunker and shoots two free throws; this evens the score to a 27-14 lead, still by Liberty. Another three by Chowning on the rebound and another foul call on Liberty. Kinsey Barton continues to try to get some shots off for Bunker, but ends up coming back out. Isabella Sanders gets her first points of the night at the throw line. A good three for Hadley Chowning. Chowning also makes one more good layup before another foul and Hailey Turnbough goes back to the line for Bunker. Morgan Smith for Liberty Scores on another three right before the buzzer. And the Liberty Lady Eagles will go to the locker room with the lead at the half, 37-29.
3rd Quarter: Bunker takes the ball to start the Half but loses it out of bound and goes back to Liberty. Another three from the far side by Hadley Chowning as now, Liberty leads by eleven. Rebound and a good two-hander by Jaylie Tharp adds two more. Rebound Hailey Turnbull for Bunker who scores on a good three. Liberty plays some offense and tries to look for another opening, which they do and a jump shot by Ella Phipps. Bunker was able to keep shooting threes in the first part of the half which forced the Liberty Lady Eagles to bare down even more on defense. Hadley Chowning is able to keep the Lady Eagles fairly grounded at the free throw line. Another three as so far, Hadley has eighteen points on the night. This follows another turnover by Bunker and another three pointer by Ella Phipps with around 1:50 to go. Turnbough is able to bring Bunker within ten from the throw line. At the end of the half; Liberty continues to lead by ten- 55-45.
4th Quarter: So far, Liberty has outscored Bunker 18-16 in the half. Both teams play some clock for the first three to four minutes of the quarter. Score is evened up to 57-47 as some easy layups are played by both teams. Ashlynn Henry scores her sixth point of the night with a good jumper for Liberty. The shot that pretty much decides the game after about 3:35 to spare on the clock is shot by Jayli Tharp, a nice long three pointer. Chowning gets the ball back after Bunker tries to steal it back. Hailey Turnbough also is able to make a good last minute jumper.
