Grizzlies fall 87-58 to Northeast Missisippi in Harvey Childers Classic

The Missouri State University Men’s Basketball faced off against the Northeast Mississippi Tigers this past Saturday afternoon, December 14th 2024 in the Harvey Childers Classic on the Campus of Northeast Mississippi Community College in Boonville, Mississippi. The Grizzlies had faced Northeast Mississippi at home about four weeks ago and lost by a score of 66-60. This time they fell by a Score of 87-58 as the Tigers continued to showcase the same remarkable offensive pressure they had faced in the previous game.

1st Half: First bucket of the day by Shaun Glass for the Grizzlies. So far, the northeast Tigers are doing a good job at blowing plays dead before the play clock. However, Grizzlies are being able to cause Northeast to foul and Ergie Kougnami is able to make two at the line. Point guard #0, Javion Stephen is also able to score a few at the line for northeast. Ergie shoots two more on another line violation and a good bucket for #5, Josh Holman for northeast. Rebound and #1 Ryan Richardson shoots a good three.#1 Landon Jeffries, the 6”1 guard also contributing for some of the good dunks by Northeast. #2, Tyler Byrd shoots two at the Line for Northeast. Midway through the quarter, Northeast leads 16-8. Ryan Richardson makes two at the line for the Grizzlies and looks to draw Grizzlies closer. So far the majority of plays in the game thus far have been shot at the free throw line. #3, Josh Williams shoots two. Layup and foul on the rebound as Blayne Harris tries to steal it back. #3, Jonathan White is able to connect a pass down to Shaun Glass. Lost out of bounds, picked up by #2, Tyler Byrd who puts it in for two. Another bucket by Josh Holman. 6;15 to go and Grizzlies are down by eight, 23-17. A jumper up and good for #5, Shaun Glass for the Grizzlies. In the remaining five minutes, two free throws by #10, Stephon Thomas for Northeast. Good pass from #13, Ethan Smith to #14, Jayden Roach, Roach puts it in on the jumper. A ten point game as a foul is called on Thomas for northeast. Grizzlies struggling to get shots up in the perimeter. Josh Holman adds 14. Ryan Richardson is able to make a layup coming out of a time out. Northeast tries to make another play but stolen back, foul on Grizzlies

 

HALFTIME- Northeast Mississippi Tigers: 38/ MSU-WP Grizzlies: 26

 

2nd Half: Foul call on the Grizzlies and Josh Williams makes 1-2 free throws at the line. Grizzlies are continuing to get a bit luckier with fouling Northeast, however they continue to struggle with inbound pressure from Northeast. Tyler Byrd shoots two more for Northeast as now the Tigers are up 47-29. Shaun Glass who is also back in now for the Grizzlies and able to speed up some of the passes. Makes his eleventh point of the day with his second three pointer of the game. Jayden Roach is able to foul Holman for Northeast and makes one at the line. Rebound Riley Whitacker who scores on a jumper. Northeast fights back and brings it back up to a nineteen point lead as #15, Zane Tipler scores on a three pointer for Northeast. Grizzlies take the ball back after two more foul calls. Jake Sage is finally able to score a three as Grizzlies are down by more about 25. Sage also makes a spin move as he looks to make up some points for the Grizzly deficit. But predictably, stolen and in for two by #4 Michael Johnson for Northeast, Sage finally gets to add to the 2-5 deficit of free throws as he makes 1-3 at the line. At the defensive in, #1 Landon Jeffries shoots a three. This is only Jeffries’ second bucket of the game but nonetheless, adds to what is already a big lead for Northeast. Rebound, Jake Sage fires back with a three of his own. With under 4:30 to go, Northeast leads 75-52. From the left wing, another three by Shaun Glass after another minute passes.#12 Ishmail Rashid goes 2-3 at the line for Northeast and the score is now 83-57 with under two minutes to go. Following, an easy layup by #15 Tipler. Foul call on Northeast and Roach shoots 1-2 with a minute and a half to go.

Grizzlies will take a break over the Holidays and resume play on Saturday, January 4th on their home court as they will face Link Year Prep for the second time. Game Time 7 PM on 102.5 Hot Country KDY.
