The Missouri State West Plains faced the Moberly Greyhounds for the second time this season on Wednesday night, February 5th, 2025. The Grizzlies had originally faced the Greyhounds on their home court @ Fitzsimmons-John Arena back on Saturday, January 18th and falling by a Score of 76-50. This time, the Grizzlies fell by a final score of 72-60.
Summary:
1st Half: 0, KJ Vassar for the Greyhounds has the ball to start and passes to #1, Javaris Moye for a good three pointer. #1, Ryan Richardson for the Grizzlies with the next possession who shoots and scores on an easy two hander. Taken back by the hounds for a two pointer by #4, Ade Poopola. The first three pointer shot upon being taken back by the Grizzlies by #5, Shaun Glass. Greyhounds take it back and another easy one by Moye as they have an early 8-5 lead. #33, Lionel Kiumwimba with his first point of the night upon taking it back after going through several Greyhound defenders. Also the first point on a massive jumper by #11, Javian Downey. Worked back out by the greyhounds and a bucket by #3, Thomas Diew for the Greyounds followed by another three by KJ Vassar, taking away the short lived one point lead for the Grizzlies. Greyhounds are seeming to try to get as many looks at threes as possible in the early going of the first half. Grizzlies making good strides early with blocks. Thomas Diew with another step move and bucket for the Grizzlies who now has four points in the Game. Grizzlies are now sliding back into their much feared cold phase as they begin to have some trouble getting shots to fall. Finally, Ryan Richardson with a long three narrows the trail to five points. Thomas Diew for the Greyhounds continues to rebound it and spin the ball in upon the next few Greyhound possessions. Diew also gets two free throws after fouling #2, Riley Whitacker for the Grizzlies. Grizzlies try for another three, passing in a near circle and finally another three by Whitacker. But Greyhounds with it again and another three by #4, Poopola. #12, Dejuan Bates with his first Greyound basket after another easy rebound as Grizzlies are now down by ten, 25-15.
Finally, Grizzlies have it and another three by #11, Javian Downey. So far, three pointers are appearing to be the height of the Grizzlies momentum. Even with 7:22 to go, still not many fouls called for either team. Another bucket by #12, Bates for the hounds. #10, Jake Sage tries taking it out for another three on the Grizzlies but doesn’t fall. The Greyhounds are playing a zone and trying to force the Grizzlies to shoot over the top. A foul call sends #13, Ethan Smith to the line but unfortunately goes 0-2 at the line. After another three attempt on the next Greyhound possession, stolen and shot for two points by #2, Riley Whitacker for the Grizzlies. Gets a chance to make one at the line after fouling #3, Diew for the Greyhounds but does not make the free throw. The second bucket of the night, a three by #5, Latrell Kyles for the Greyhounds which puts the Greyhounds up by twelve, 32-20 with 2:50 to go in the first half. In the final minute or so: Another three by Kyles plus a two hander by Kiumwimba.
HALFTIME- Moberly Greyhounds: 35/ MSU-WP Grizzlies: 23
2nd Half: A good start for the Grizzlies as #11, Javian Downey shoots and scores on a two hander. Taken back by the Greyhounds with another three pointer. A nearly impossible spin move angles in by Ryan Richardson on the next Grizzly possession and another bucket by Diew. Grizzlies still determined to take the ball straight to the bucket as another one it scored by #12, Ergie Kougnami. Shaun Glass with two more three pointer narrows the trail down to five as they continue to look for a run. Grizzlies have yet to shut down #3, Thomas Diew as he scores another bucket on the next Greyhound rebound. Another shocker by Ryan RIchardson with a long three. Grizzlies try to rebound it but it goes out of bounds. Back out to Shaun Glass who gets in an easy two hander. #13, Ethan Smith who has yet to try a three finally shoots one but it doesn’t fall in. With 13:14 to go, Greyhounds still have the lead 44-38. Greyhounds so far have the only three fouls in the Second half as the next one sends #3, Jonathan White to shoot two, making both and putting down the trail down to just five points. The second of the first two team fouls in the Second Hal for the Grizzlies sends #5, Latrell Kyles to the line for the Greyhounds who brings the lead back up to seven. A rebound by Poopola for the Greyhounds who takes the ball and slams it in, the lead quickly stretching back out to double digits once again.
Another three pointer by #3, Moye brings the lead back up to sixteen after just moments ago having a shot at a one possession game. Ryan Richardson, Lionel Kiumwimba make some more headroom for the Grizzlies as Ethan shoots the three, and luck at the free throw line by Ryan and Lionel. A wide open look and a good three by #10, Jake Sage as Grizzlies are back down by nine with a little over three minutes to go. With 2:15 to go, another three pointer by Shaun Glass as he takes it in. Kyles and Vassar with two more buckets for the Greyhounds. Another three by Jack Sage sage right before time runs out.
