During the event, Bridges and Dr. Grant represented TCMH, engaging directly with legislators to emphasize the importance of primary care in rural health. They also took the opportunity to network with healthcare advocates statewide, sharing insights and building support for related initiatives. Dr. Grant, drawing from her deep understanding of challenges in the field, raised concerns about the growing prevalence of healthcare deserts, or areas with limited access to medical services, sparking meaningful conversations with lawmakers.

“These rural programs are important to addressing these areas’ lack of access,” remarked Dr. Grant. “It increases the health of those communities, which in turn will increase the ability of those residents to work and increase production for the state overall. It’s that trickle-down effect.”

Rep. Cook’s meeting with healthcare leadership underscored the vital partnership between local providers and state policymakers in addressing the unique needs of rural Missourians. Their discussions highlighted actionable steps toward improving healthcare access and outcomes in Texas County and beyond.
