From the City of West Plains:
WEST PLAINS, MO – The City of West Plains is pleased to announce the upcoming rollout of new 95-gallon trash cans for residential sanitation customers. Sanitation crews will begin delivering the new cans the week of May 5, in preparation for the launch of the department’s new automated side loader trash truck.
The new cans—provided at no cost to residents—offer several enhanced features:
Three times the capacity of traditional garbage cans
Built-in wheels for easy movement
Fitted lids to contain trash and deter animals
Durable plastic construction designed to withstand the elements
Each can will be GPS-tracked and assigned to a specific address. They are intended to remain with the property, regardless of changes in tenancy or ownership. As soon as the new can is delivered, residents may begin using it.
Due to the scale of the rollout, it may take up to two months to complete deliveries to all residences.
Later this year, the city’s new side loader truck will begin servicing sanitation routes. This fall, following a 30-day grace period after citywide can distribution, the new can will become the only receptacle collected by city sanitation crews. Residents who wish to have an additional can may request one for a fee of $14.90 per month, which will be added to their utility bill.
To protect city property, anyone found to have stolen or intentionally damaged a trash can may face prosecution. In accordance with city ordinance, all trash cans must be returned from the curb or street within 24 hours of pickup.
