Lillian, the daughter of Fred Hoffert & wife Edna, nee Cooksey was born June 7, 1938, and was raised in St. Louis.

She was married to Eugene Maxey on June 2, 1956, and from the marriage two children were born. Lillian graduated with a master’s degree from Missouri Baptist College. She worked as a schoolteacher with St. Louis Christian Academy, then later she ran a retirement home and finally retired at 80 years old from Munger Co. (Experitic, Inc). She and her husband moved from St. Louis to Licking in 2005 to be on the family farm. In 2023 only after losing her husband Eugene, did she leave the farm to join part of her family in Villa Ridge, Mo.

Lillian as a “schoolteacher” did so much more than just “teach”. She ran the home economics & music program and choir, wrote and produced school plays. She played piano and did bookkeeping for her church for many years. After moving to Licking, she was the bookkeeper for The Licking Bridge Builders Senior Center. Lillian loved to sew, make quilts, and do crafts. In her younger years she was an avid gardener and loved growing flowers. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and doing genealogy and in 2014 was awarded membership to The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. However, above any position she held or title she carried she was most proud of her title as Wife, Mom, Grandma and GiGi, and loved and enjoyed her family above anything other than her Savior Jesus Christ.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Fred & Edna Hoffert, her husband Eugene Maxey, her sister Marie Woods and her brother Fred Hoffert Jr.

Among her survivors are her daughter Sharon Parker & husband Maurice of St. Louis, son Tim Maxey and wife Kelly of Villa Ridge; three grandchildren Christina Magana & Steve, Brian Holt & Rachel and Bradley Maxey & Gayle; seven great-grandchildren, Roman, Antonio & Isabella Magana, Chandler, Kennedy & Brooks Holt and Harlee Biggs; three sisters, Ella Mae Henson, Thelma Cummins & David and Leona Gottschlich; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Lillian was loved by all who met her and will be missed tremendously.

A visitation for Lillian will take place Friday, May 15, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Fox Funeral Home. A private burial will take place in Boone Creek Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Evangel Temple of Greater St. Louis, 2736 Sutton Blvd. Maplewood, MO 63143 on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 10:30 AM. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mercy Hospice.
