Janice Kaye Tharp, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, was born to Leo and Alma (Stacy) Cowen on September 19, 1949, in Birch Tree, Missouri. She departed this life on May 16, 2026, at the age of 76.

Janice was united in marriage to Jerry Tharp on July 18, 1992, with whom she shared a life of love and faith for nearly 34 years.

She lived a life anchored in unwavering faith and deep love for Jesus. Her relationship with Him guided every step she took and every person she encountered. She didn’t just speak about her faith — she lived it, radiating grace, kindness, and compassion in a way that left a lasting imprint on countless lives.

Janice was a founding member of Cornerstone Family Worship and served as the pianist for 18 years. Music was one of the many ways she expressed her love for God and for those around her.

She found her greatest joy in the presence of her family and friends. She made every moment feel special. Her love was steady, selfless, and deeply felt by all who knew her.

Janice will be remembered for her contagious smile: joyful, warm, and impossible to forget. It was a reflection of her spirit: bright, welcoming, and full of life. She had a unique ability to make others feel seen, valued, and loved, and her presence was a blessing to everyone she met.

She leaves behind her husband, Jerry Tharp; her sons, Dion Prewett (Charla) and Stacey Prewett (Anna); and daughter, Lori Sisney (Joshua), all of West Plains, MO; five grandchildren, Jeremy Prewett (Wendi), Marissa Spencer (Mat), Brittney Ronzani (Sergio), Whittney Drumright (David), and Jaelyn Sisney; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Alma Cowen; two sisters, Betty Dean Cowen and Patricia Yarber; and two brothers, Jerry Wayne “Buddy” Cowen and Lindell Cowen.

Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, whom she loved so dearly. Her legacy of faith, love, and kindness will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
