Officer C. Davis wrote that he confirmed Romines’ registry status through Texas County 911 Dispatch and approached him in the stands. Romines reportedly acknowledged he was on the registry and told the officer he “just wanted to see his granddaughter’s graduation,” but admitted he had not sought authorization from the school superintendent to attend the event .

Police say Romines was informed he could not leave the scene and was taken into custody based on restrictions prohibiting registered sex offenders from being physically present or loitering within 500 feet of a public park, swimming pool, athletic complex, museum, or nature center. He was placed on a 24‑hour hold at 7:33 p.m. .
