On Monday a ceremony was held in the front lawn of the West Plains Civic Center to announce the Road to Remember Veterans banners that are hanging throughout the downtown area.
The project was part of a Girl Scout Gold Award for Cara Jacques who stated that this projects goals were to raise local awareness for past and present veterans in the area, see more community involvement when it comes to veteran related events and to have a positive effect on veterans and their family.
The event began with Emily Long welcoming everyone then it was turned over to Mayor Mike Topliff who read a proclamation stating that Memorial Day through Veterans Day 2026 will be recognized as Road to Remember in West Plains.
Jacquez thanked the City of West Plains, West Plains Downtown and AmVets for their help in this amazing project.
