The closest finish in Indianapolis 500 history ended with Alex Palou winning the race for the first time in his career. Palou edged Marcus Ericsson at the finish line in a dramatic final sprint to capture the biggest victory of his career at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The three-time IndyCar champion became the first Spanish driver to ever win the Indy 500 and added another huge accomplishment to his dominant 2026 season.
The race featured several crashes, cautions, and constant lead changes before coming down to the final laps. Ericsson finished second after nearly tracking Palou down at the line, while David Malukas placed third for the best Indy 500 finish of his career.
The win also strengthened Palou’s lead in the IndyCar championship standings as he continues chasing another series title.
