John Edward Donovan

John Edward Donovan, 98, West Plains, Missouri, passed away at 6:07 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at his home.

He was born October 18, 1927, at Sioux City, Iowa, to John Jeremiah Donovan and Ida Helen Moir Donovan. On January 10, 1999, he was married at West Plains, Missouri, to Mollie Linda Marquez. Mr. Donovan was a veteran, having served with the United States Marines as a platoon sergeant and served in WWII, China and Korea. He worked for a number of years for National Cash Register Company. Mr. Donovan enjoyed cross country traveling and quilting alongside his wife; they designed and made many quilts for family, friends and various local charities. He loved his family deeply and loved his step-family as his own. He was very wise and always had advice to give in any situation. Mr. Donovan found joy in the simple things in life and never complained. He cherished time spent with his family and friends. He was an honorary member of the Salem Country Quilters. Mr. Donovan grew up Catholic and later in life became a member of Lanton Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mollie Donovan; five children, Patti Adamo and husband, Joe, Debra Contreras and husband, Sam, Sabrina Draper and husband, Harlan, Tom Santistevan and wife, Michelle and Angela Avila and husband, Danny; twenty grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob Donovan and wife, Bernice; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, two brothers, Billie Finnegan and Jim Donovan and one sister, Mary Catherine Atwood, preceded him in death.
