The Mizzou men’s basketball team added another power-conference opponent to its 2026-27 schedule on Tuesday as the Tigers are slated to face perennial Big East contender Marquette in the 2026 Legends Classic, presented by Old Trapper, in November.
The Tigers and Golden Eagles will square off at Chicago’s United Center on Sunday, November 15. It is slated to be the teams’ first matchup in 18 years and the first in regular-season play in 43 seasons. Overall, Mizzou holds a 5-4 advantage in nine meetings, including three matchups in NCAA Tournament action (Mizzou wins in 1982 and 2009 and a Marquette victory in 2003).
ABOUT THE TEAMS
The Tigers have earned back-to-back NCAA Tournament bids for the first time since a run of five-straight invitations from 2009 to 2013. Mizzou has also totaled at least 20 wins in each of the last two campaigns with double-digit SEC victories in consecutive seasons for the first time since joining the league in 2012.
Mizzou is set to welcome the nation’s seventh-ranked freshman class and the country’s 14th-ranked transfer class to Columbia next season in addition to six returning players from the 2025-26 campaign.
Marquette has earned an NCAA Tournament invitation in 4-of-5 seasons under head coach Shaka Smart, including as a No. 2 seed in both 2023 and 2024, with the Golden Eagles returning three starters from last year’s team.
