Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and starter Michael Wacha were named American League All-Stars. Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker was named a National League All-Star for the first time in his career.
For Witt Jr, this will be his third All-Star game and his first as a starter. Wacha, who was also an All-Star with the Cardinals in 2015, will be in the bullpen next Tuesday in Philadelphia. After allowing four runs in six innings against the Phillies on Saturday, Wacha’s 3.45 ERA ranks 14th in the AL, and he leads the league in innings with 114 2/3 over his 18 starts.
In 85 games, Walker is hitting .292 with 20 home runs and has rebounded from adjustments, trips back to the minors and high expectations that have followed him since he made his debut in 2023.
