Howell County Emergency Management has been awarded Grant Funding enabling purchase of NOAA Weather alerting radios. This funding was made possible through the Emergency Management Performance Mini Grant awarded to Howell County Emergency Management According to Director Mike Coldiron.
These radios are intended to provide early warning capabilities to residents in Howell County who cannot afford to purchase and or live in areas where they do not have adequate access to early warning notifications i.e.: low or no cell phone or television coverage.
Due to the limited supply awarded applications will be taken to determine those with the greatest need.
Key qualifying criteria include:
- Household income below a specified threshold
- Residence in a high-risk weather zone
- Enrollment in senior citizen or disability assistance programs
- Participation in disaster preparedness training or community outreach programs
Applicants may be required to submit proof of eligibility, such as income statements, utility bills, or identification linked to assistance programs.
How to Request a Free Weather Radio
Requesting a free weather radio involves contacting the Howell County Emergency Management agency directly for an application. The process includes the following steps:
- Applications may be picked up at the Howell County Emergency Operations Center by calling 417-255-0515 to schedule time, or by visiting the Howell County Clerk’s Office at #35 Court Square, Applications will be available on our Facebook page as well and may be printed and returned either by mail to Howell County Emergency Operations Center Attn: wx radio #35 Court Square suite 203 West Plains Mo. 65775, or emailed to emd@howellcountymo.gov
- Verification of eligibility requirements for receiving a radio.
- Provide any necessary documentation to confirm eligibility.
- Arrange for pickup or request delivery, if available.
- Due to limited stock, early application is advisable.
Application period will be from 07/20/2026 to 07/30/2026 4pm
No applications will be accepted after 4pm 07/30/2026
Awarded applicants will be notified by phone within 10 days of closing application date.
