DOUGLAS COUNTY, Mo. — A man has been charged with multiple felonies following an incident in which authorities say a fleeing motorcycle struck a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle.
Joshua Simmons was arrested July 29 by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on charges of first-degree assault or attempted first-degree assault involving serious physical injury or a special victim, armed criminal action, aggravated fleeing a stop or detention, and driving while revoked or suspended.
A $100,000 cash-only bond was set in the case.
According to information provided by the sheriff’s office, the charges stem from a Feb. 26 incident on Highway 95 near Gentryville.
Douglas County Deputy D. Martin was assisting Wright County authorities with the pursuit of an orange motorcycle when he observed the motorcycle approaching his location.
Authorities said Martin positioned his patrol vehicle on the center yellow line of Highway 95 with its emergency lights and siren activated in an attempt to prevent the fleeing motorcycle from continuing past his location.
The motorcycle then struck the front of the patrol vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
The subject was taken into custody without further incident.
All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
