William W. (Buster) Young, Jr., May 23, 1949 – August 10, 2026, was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, to William W. Young Sr. and Dorothy Rounsaville Young.
He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1967. He attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and received a degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University, Starkville, Mississippi.
He was an auditor with the Mississippi State Audit Department. Later he was a comptroller for the Indianola School District in Indianola, Mississippi. After he retired he went to work for Community First Banking Company in West Plains, Missouri.
Buster was never happier than when he was outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who especially enjoyed bow hunting, turkey hunting, and bream fishing. Some of his closest friends and best memories were from his days spent in the stand or a blind.
He was a member of the All Saints’ Episcopal Church in West Plains, Missouri.
William is survived by his wife of 46 years, Julia Fane (Showers) Young, his son, Ellis Screws (Karen), three grandchildren; Hunter (Haleigh), Kori (Gabe), and Andrew (Carson), and three great-grandsons, Ellis, Grant, and John Robert. He is also survived by his nephews Andy (Steph) Jordan and Bobby (Nikki) Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Vadie Lou Jordan.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Buster’s caregiver, Kayla Curl, who worked tirelessly to make his last days fun, peaceful and comfortable.
Instead of a single service, there will be several informal memorials at later dates to be determined for those he loved and who loved him.
In lieu of flowers and gifts the family suggests donations to an organization of your choice in Buster’s memory.
