MSU-West Plains Grizzly Cheer Team Seeks New Members for Upcoming Season
The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly cheer team is looking to bolster its roster as it continues to rebuild following the pandemic. New head cheer coach Mackenzie Smith is inviting students to join the squad, emphasizing that no prior experience is required to participate.
Recruitment Efforts Underway
The team is actively recruiting during the “Sample West Plains” event, where incoming students can learn more about campus life and extracurricular opportunities. Coach Smith, a West Plains native and former Grizzly cheerleader, is eager to see the team grow back to the larger numbers seen in previous years, which would allow for more complex stunting and performances.
Tryout Details
If you are interested in joining the team, you can attend upcoming tryout sessions:
-
Friday, August 21st: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
-
Saturday, August 22nd: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
There is no need to sign up in advance; interested students are encouraged to simply show up. “As long as the kids are eager to learn, I’m ready,” says Smith.
Commitment and Community
While the team does not compete in the same capacity as other athletic programs, members are still expected to maintain their athleticism through gym workouts and regular practices. For those interested in learning more or getting in touch with the program, information can be found on the MSU-WP Cheer webpage, or by reaching out to current team members.
