The Harlin Museum of West Plains is extending the entry period for its annual Fall Art Show, giving area artists an additional opportunity to participate in this year’s exhibition.
Entries will now be accepted Thursday, September 3 through Sunday, September 6, from noon to 4 p.m. Artists who are unable to enter during those hours may also make arrangements to submit their work by appointment.
This year’s Fall Art Show celebrates the theme “America” and features three categories:
Landscapes of America — This category is open to landscapes of all kinds. A painting does not have to depict a famous American location. National parks, city streets, local parks, lakes, farms, hometowns, and other places that represent the American landscape are all welcome.
Symbols & Icons of America — This category extends beyond official national symbols. Artists are encouraged to explore the many images that represent or evoke American life, history, culture, and identity. Animals, objects, landmarks, traditions, occupations, foods, places, and other recognizable aspects of American life may all be appropriate subjects.
Portraits of America — Portraits may depict famous Americans or everyday people. Family members, friends, neighbors, workers, farmers, teachers, veterans, children, and others all contribute to the American story and are welcome subjects.
“The theme is intentionally broad,” said Cleo Cockrum, president of the Harlin Museum Board of Directors. “We want artists to think about what America means to them. It can be a place, a person, an object, a tradition, or an ordinary moment in American life.”
The Fall Art Show is open to artists who would like to share their personal interpretation of the American experience. Artists do not need to choose a famous subject in order to participate.
Entries will be accepted September 3–6 from noon–4 p.m. at the Harlin Museum of West Plains. By-appointment entry is also available.
