The Liberty Eagles kicked off the 2026-2027 Football season at home with The Scott City, Chaffee Rams this past Friday Night. Eagles came into the game off of a historic season making it to State Quarterfinal Play but ultimately defeated by The Blair Oaks Falcons
The Eagles had a great deal of luck both on offense and defense even though Scott City had some miniscule luck running the football into the second half.
1st Quarter: Liberty wins tip and early on a 55 yard touchdown run by Wyatt Cox. On defense at the 7:08, Junior Roger Haeffner almost gets a steal but loses it. Liberty after this faces two unfortunate punt situations and gives up two points after they nearly score again. The Scott CIty/Chaffee Rams try for a run but an incomplete pass sends the ball back to The Liberty Eagles as they take in two points An incomplete pass after by Carter Ellett for The Eagles sends the ball back to The Rams,
After 1 Liberty holds at 6:2
2nd Quarter: Liberty catches the ball on a 29 yard catch moving them to four down territory with 11:17 to go. A throw to Jasper Melby as he goes in for the next run in to bring The Liberty Eagles up to a 14:2 lead. Scott City tries for more downs but Cooper Holden picks off the Football and kills the next drive for the Rams. Scott City has tried six pass attempts but not very much luck as Melby makes another steal for The Eagles at 5:32 to go. Rams nearly fumble the football and runs the ball in but this is all contained as Wyatt Cox scores again as Liberty continues to lead 22-2 after Cox punches in the extra point. Roger Haeffner nearly cashes in on a pass by The Scott City/Chaffee Rams on the next pass but falls short again as Scott City goes for 2nd and 10. Rams end up being forced to punt the football as Liberty takes back the ball for 1st & 10. Liberty continues to stride in with momentum as Junior Easton Smotherman scores a 15 yard run to take the game to the half
HALFTIME- Liberty Eagles: 28/ Scott City, Chaffee Rams: 2
3rd Quarter: Similar start to the quarter and the half as Scott City tries some run attempts but the ball is picked off by Senior Jasper Melby. Some unfortunate luck follows as the ball is stolen by Sophomore Carter Ellett as Scott City goes for first and ten and scores after some considerable yardage with a touchdown by Senior Adam Swinford for the Rams. But after a take back Liberty gets in another run without the second point by Jasper Melby. Later on; a 43-yard reception for Junior, Roger Haeffner. Liberty continues on with lead 43-8 with 23 sec to go in the 3rd.
4th Quarter: Both teams get runs to close things out as Wyatt Cox takes in another run for Liberty bringing them to a 50-8 lead followed by another run by the Rams as they bring up the rear with the score at 50-15.
FINAL- Liberty Eagles: 50/ Scott City, Chaffee Rams: 15
This coming Friday night, Eagles will travel to Miller Missouri to take on The Miller Cardinals. Kickoff @7 following the pregame on 96.9 THE FOX.
