Liberty Eagles Snatch Victory from the Jaws of Defeat

The Liberty Eagles faced off the Thayer Bobcats, longtime rivals in their latest Friday night game.

The Liberty Eagles came out of the gate playing a strong offensive game, and managed to score within the first few minutes of the match. Despite the quick point game, the team quickly went tit-for-tat, and the clock began to run out without any major progress between either team.

The first quarter ended, and as soon as the second began, the Bobcats scored a quick touchdown but scored no additional points, tying the game. The second quarter continued to drag out much the same way that the first did, with neither side giving either much room. Still yet, the Eagles managed another touchdown and attempted a two-point conversion which was no good. 12-6 was the score now. Liberty managed to take possession of the ball after a block of a punt. With 5:21 left to go in the first half, Liberty took another touchdown, and attempted another two-point conversion, and managed to get this one. 20 to 6 became the score. This quarter proved to be packed with action for both teams, as the Bobcats managed a score back against the Eagles and picked up an additional point, making the score 20-14. The rest of the first half ended without the score changing.

With the half-way point of the game now finished, the Liberty Eagles were in charge of maintaining their lead against the Bobcats. The Bobcats were quickly begining to stop the moment of the Eagles, as the Liberty team put out a turnover to the Bobcats as well, the game was now tied. The Eagles appeared to lose all of their momentum in the third quarter, and the time on the clock was running out without seeing many changes on the field aside from the stamina of the players going down. The third quarter ended without any further progress.

The final quarter of the game started without a significant change from the third quarter. With 5 minutes in, neither team had scored. The Eagles managed to lose the ball despite pushing hard against the Bobcats, putting the Thayer team in a great position to score. After some hard pressing of their advantage, the Bobcats take the lead with a touchdown with a failed two-point conversion. The score was now 26 to 20, 2:28 left on the clock. As the came down to the last 30 seconds of the game, the Liberty Eagles pushed hard and managed to tie the game once again, raising the points to 26 to 26. The Eagles went for a two-point conversion, which succeeded. Those two points brought the Eagles up to 28 to 26, with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, making this their first score in the second half, and maybe the most important of the game. With the Liberty defense game staying strong, the Eagles kept their lead and took the win in this rivalry match in the third week of highschool football. This brings their score at 3 wins and no losses.
