From the Howell County Sheriff’s Department:
We have received multiple calls from concerned citizens about a scam caller who is reportedly posing as Sergeant Travis Weaver with the Howell County Sheriff’s Office.
The scammer is telling people that they have jury duty or another legal responsibility and claiming that there is a problem with their compliance. These claims are not true. The caller may use the threat of arrest, fines, or other legal consequences to pressure the person into taking immediate action or providing money or personal information.
NEVER provide money, gift cards, banking information, Social Security numbers, or other personal information to the caller.
If you receive a suspicious call:
– Hang up and do not engage with the caller.
– Do not call back using a number provided by the caller.
– Contact the Howell County Sheriff’s Office directly via our official phone number at 417-256-2544.
– If you believe you have been targeted or lost money, report the scam to the appropriate authorities.
**Law enforcement will NEVER require you to make immediate payments over the phone to avoid arrest for a supposed jury-duty or legal violation.**
