Funeral Services for Richard Alverson Sr., Age 84 of West Plains, Missouri will be held on Monday, September 21st, 2026 in The Langston Street Chapel of The Robertson Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, Missouri, beginning at 2:00 PM. Alverson will lie in state at The Funeral Home on Sunday, September 20th, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 PM.

Mr. Alverson passed away peacefully at his home on September 15, 2026.

He was born February 9, 1942, at Oswego, Kansas, to Jim Alverson and Jeanita Lee Lasater Alverson. On December 4, 1960, he was married at West Plains, to Charolett Odom. Richard was the song leader at Second Baptist Church for 30 years; he won an award for his amazing voice. Many knew RA from his maintenance position at the International Shoe Company in West Plains until it closed at which time he became an important part of the DRS maintenance crew. Many people were astounded by his incredible abilities with machines.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Charolett Kay Alverson, of the family home; two children, Cappy Fore and husband Gary and Richard D. Alverson, Jr., and wife, Penney, all of West Plains; five grandchildren, Dustin Fore and wife, Sandra, Springfield, Missouri, Richard D. Alverson, III and wife, Jessi of the family home who were his end of life caregivers, Nathan Fore and wife, Gavonna, West Plains, Samantha Watkins and husband, Brandon, Caulfield, Missouri and Chris Alverson and wife, Bethany, West Plains; his great-grandchildren, Shelby and Bentley Joe Fore, Gavin and Lexie Alverson, Ellie, Richard IV and Greyson Alverson, Kaleb, Caylee, Zoey, Kennedy and Zane Watkins, Alexis, Bentley, River, Walter, Kay and Aubriella Alverson; two brothers, Roger Lee and wife, Gloria, Ronnie Lee and wife, Teresa; one sister, Jeanie Ivanho; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.
