WEST PLAINS, MO – West Plains Downtown invites residents and visitors from across the Ozarks to celebrate the region’s rich musical and cultural heritage during Dolly & Porter Days, returning to downtown West Plains on Friday, October 2, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Inspired by the legacy of country music icons Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner, the festival honors the enduring influence both artists have had on American culture while showcasing the traditions, creativity, and community spirit that continue to define the Ozarks.
More than a music festival, Dolly & Porter Days is a celebration of heritage, artistry, and participation. The event brings traditional country music, fiber arts, local food, shopping, and costume-making to the heart of West Plains Downtown. Programming is designed to be accessible at every level, from professional performers taking the stage to community members creating fiber art, showing off their favorite Dolly-inspired outfit, entering a baking contest, or participating in festival activities for the very first time.
“We want everyone who attends to find a way to participate,” said Finley Aiton, Chair of the Promotions Committee for West Plains Downtown. “Whether you’re listening to live music, creating art, dressing up for the costume contest, supporting local businesses, or trying something new, Dolly & Porter Days is designed to celebrate the culture and traditions that make the Ozarks unique.”
Festival activities will include:
- Live traditional country music and entertainment
- A Dolly-inspired costume contest
- The Rags to Art fiber arts exhibit and activities
- A community baking contest
- A hot dog eating contest
- Local shopping, dining, and vendor experiences
- Kids’ activities and family-friendly programming
- Community participation opportunities for all ages
A featured element of the festival is Rags to Art, a fiber arts experience inspired by Dolly Parton’s beloved song Coat of Many Colors. The program creates a meaningful bridge between historic Ozarks craft traditions and contemporary arts programming while honoring a heritage art form that has long been part of the region’s cultural identity.
Celebrating an Ozarks Legacy
Porter Wagoner remains one of the Ozarks’ most influential cultural ambassadors. A Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, longtime Grand Ole Opry member, and host of one of country television’s longest-running programs, Wagoner helped shape the sound and style of country music for generations. His partnership with Dolly Parton produced some of the genre’s most recognizable performances and recordings.
Their connections to West Plains remain a source of local pride. By anchoring the festival in Wagoner’s hometown, West Plains Downtown seeks to strengthen community identity, preserve local history, and share the story of the Ozarks’ influence on American music and culture with a broader audience.
