Marty Wells, 94, of Gainesville, Missouri passed away at home on September 17, 2026.
Marty was born on January 11, 1932 in Chandler, Oklahoma to Glen and Essie Davis. The family moved to California when she was a small child. Marty graduated from Corcoran High School in Corcoran, California.
Marty was united in marriage to Max Wells on January 19, 1957 in Creve Coeur, Illinois. They resided in Peoria, Illinois where they raised two sons – Duane and Gary. Marty was a stay-at-home Mom until her sons were in high school and then went back to work as a Teacher’s Aide for special needs children. She retired in 1999. Upon retiring, they moved to Gainesville, Missouri in 1999 to be closer to the good fishing!
Marty was an avid fisherman and when the weather was nice, she and Max could always be found in their Bass boat fishing Bull Shoals. Although Max would get irritated, he would readily admit that Marty was the better fisherman! When not fishing, Marty loved sitting on the front porch watching the hummingbirds, Golden Finches, Cardinals, and other birds. She was also an animal lover and had many dogs throughout her life that she loved and treated just like a family member. Everyone that met Marty instantly fell in love with her! Her kindness, quit wit, and warm smile are what people will always remember. Most of all, she was the most caring and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother that anyone could ever ask for and will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to have known her.
Marty is survived by her son Gary and his wife Caryn of Freeport, Florida, two Grandsons – Jason Wells of Gainesville, MO and Matthew Wells of Galesburg, IL, one Granddaughter Gwen Torres Wells of Galesburg, Il two Great Granddaughters – Daenerys and Talia Wells of Galesburg, IL and two nieces – Cheryl Davis of Peoria, IL and Chris Bizier of Toronto, Canada. She is also survived by her “adopted” Granddaughter – Tina Bushee of Theodosia. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Max, her son Duane, her Mother and Father, one brother and two sisters.
