A Cabool man is facing multiple felony charges after a traffic stop in Willow Springs led to the discovery of methamphetamine, a loaded firearm, and an attempted escape while handcuffed.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred Monday, September 28, 2026, at approximately 11:35 a.m. A trooper was parked on the shoulder of Missouri 76 near Willow Drive when he observed a black Chevrolet Suburban stop at the intersection. The trooper recognized the driver as 25‑year‑old Weslee A. Field, whose Missouri driver license was suspended.
The trooper initiated a stop in the Snappy Mart parking lot and arrested Field at 11:37 a.m. for driving without a valid license. During a search incident to arrest, Field told the trooper he had “a rig” in his pocket. The trooper recovered a syringe from Field’s left pocket and a small baggie containing crystal shards from his right pocket, identified as methamphetamine. The substance later tested positive on a TruNarc analyzer and weighed approximately one gram.
A witness parked beside Field’s vehicle told MSgt. M. Chastain that Field had thrown items under the driver’s seat and into the glove compartment. During a search of the Suburban, MSgt. Chastain located a pink‑colored substance under the seat and a loaded .22‑caliber revolver with nine rounds inside the glove compartment.
While officers were conducting the search, Field managed to open the patrol vehicle door and fled on foot despite being handcuffed. The trooper gave chase and quickly apprehended him.
Field is currently on probation/parole for prior drug‑related offenses, including possession of a controlled substance and trafficking. A criminal history check confirmed he is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.
He is charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting/interfering with arrest, and unlawful use of a weapon for possessing a firearm while also possessing a controlled substance.
