An Oregon County man is facing a resisting‑arrest charge after deputies attempted to serve paperwork and take him into custody on multiple warrants in Thayer. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy J.A. Martin arrived at a residence on September 29 to serve a protection order to Jody Washam, who also had an active Thayer Police Department warrant with a $4,500 bond for assault, trespass, and peace disturbance.
Deputies say Washam stepped outside to receive the paperwork and was informed he would be taken into custody. When asked to place his hands behind his back, Washam refused, pulling away as the deputy attempted to handcuff him. During the struggle, Washam hit his head on a fence, tried to punch the deputy, and grabbed the deputy’s vest before being restrained on the ground. After continued commands, Washam eventually complied and was handcuffed.
Deputies transported him to the Thayer Police Department, where officers reported Washam became argumentative during booking. He was jailed on four outstanding warrants and is now charged with resisting arrest.
