The Kansas City Chiefs remained unbeaten Sunday with a 30-27 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in a back-and-forth game at Allegiant Stadium. Patrick Mahomes threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while Kenneth Walker III provided the biggest spark on the ground with 177 rushing yards and two scores. Kansas City improved to 4-0 and continued Mahomes’ perfect record in six career starts against the Raiders in Las Vegas.
The Chiefs trailed 13-10 entering the fourth quarter before Walker broke loose for a 76-yard run that set up Mahomes’ 8-yard touchdown pass to Tyquan Thornton. Thornton finished with five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns but was carted off after suffering a left ankle injury on the long reception. Las Vegas regained the lead on two Matt Gay field goals, but Walker’s 2-yard touchdown run with 3:21 remaining put Kansas City ahead for good.
The Raiders had one more chance after Brock Bowers caught a 20-yard touchdown pass with 1:46 left, but Kirk Cousins was intercepted near midfield to end the comeback attempt. Cousins threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns, while Bowers had six catches for 86 yards and a score. Las Vegas managed only 72 rushing yards, while Kansas City also dealt with injuries to Rashee Rice and a lineup change at left guard, where Mike Caliendo started in place of Kingsley Suamataia for disciplinary reasons.
The Chiefs are off next week before hosting the Chargers on Oct 18th.
