William “Bill” D. Wood, 79, of West Plains, Missouri, passed away on October 1, 2026. Bill was born and raised in Indianola, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa. He proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Nancy, and together they shared 57 wonderful years. They were blessed with two beautiful children, John and Michelle.
Bill’s career took them many places in their journey in life. Bill and Nancy eventually settled in West Plains, where he became a partner in Schultz, Wood & Rapp P.C., serving West Plains and Springfield, Missouri. A Certified Public Accountant, Bill generously shared both his knowledge and his compassion to help others throughout the community, often in many ways that were never publicly known.
Bill had a servant’s heart. He gave selflessly throughout his life, never seeking recognition or anything in return. At the time of his passing, he served on the Ozarks Healthcare Board of Directors in West Plains. He was also involved with the United Way, the Missouri State Grizzly Booster Club, the West Plains Rotary Club, and numerous other charities and boards.
Above all, Bill loved his family more than anything in the world. Nancy, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant everything to him, and his legacy will live on through them.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed classic cars and gathering with Car Guys. He also loved golf and fishing and was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy; his son, John Wood and wife Renee; his daughter, Michelle Nalepa and husband Jason; his grandchildren, Kylie, Lauren “Lexi,” Addalyn “Addy,” and Ava; his great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Easton, and Lincoln; his sister, Gloria Jones; his brother, Thomas Wood and wife Trudie; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and dear friends.
Bill’s lasting impact will be felt forever through the family he cherished and the community he helped make better. His support was beyond measure, and he touched countless lives. Bill truly gave from his heart. He was dearly loved and will be missed immensely.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Bill at the West Plains County Club, Friday, October 9th, from 4 – 8 p.m.
