A Wright County woman is facing charges of third‑degree domestic assault after deputies say she started a brush fire and later assaulted her mother on October 7. According to the probable cause statement, the caller told deputies her daughter, Hallie Hurley, had set the fire, and Hurley admitted she lit it because she was bored. The fire spread quickly, damaging a vehicle and burning roughly one‑third of a five‑and‑a‑half‑acre property, also reaching a neighbor’s yard.
Deputies say witnesses reported Hurley was laughing about the fire and had said she wished family members were dead. Later that day, dispatchers received a second call reporting a domestic disturbance. When deputies arrived, Hurley’s mother told them Hurley refused to sit down, put her in a hold, and then slapped her. Hurley denied hitting her mother.
Hurley was taken into custody and transported to the Wright County Jail for 3rd Degree Assault, her bond was set at $10,000.
