Rolla, MO. – The identity of a victim from a November 2nd fatal crash has been identified, and law enforcement entities are mourning the loss a Phelps County deputy.
The victim was identified as Carold “Junie” Roberts, who served not only as a law enforcement officer for both Phelps and Shannon County, but as a US Marine as well.

It is with profound sadness that the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department announces the passing of Deputy Carold “Junie” Roberts, who lost his life in a traffic accident in Texas County on November 2, 2026.
Deputy Roberts was a dedicated member of the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and proudly served his country as a United States Marine before beginning his law enforcement career. Prior to joining Phelps County, he also served with the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office and the Aurora Police Department.
Throughout his career, Deputy Roberts earned the respect of his fellow officers and the communities he served through his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to public safety.
The members of the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department are mourning the loss of a respected deputy, friend, Marine, and public servant. Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with Deputy Roberts’ family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
Sheriff Michael P. Kirn stated, “The loss of one of our own is felt throughout our entire law enforcement family and the community we serve. Deputy Roberts dedicated his life to serving others, both as a Marine and as a law enforcement officer.
His character, dedication, and service will never be forgotten. We ask everyone to keep his family, friends, and fellow deputies in their thoughts and prayers.”
