As a person of faith, protecting the unborn is something I will never stop fighting for. Every single life has such profound purpose, value, and meaning. No matter the politics of the day, I will always be an advocate for the right to life. And I’m incredibly proud to have earned an A+ rating from Susan B. Anthony, and have a 100% rating from the National Right to Life scorecard.
The Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was one of the most significant pro-life victories in our nation’s history. But make no mistake: the fight for the unborn is far from over. The radical Left is working around-the-clock to force their pro-abortion agenda on Americans, whether it’s at the local, state, or federal level.
Stopping taxpayer funds from being used for abortions is a top priority. I was proud to coauthor the House-passed No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act to help stop federal funding for abortions. I’ve also voted to maintain the Hyde Amendment, which ensures no federal funding can be used for abortion, and have fought to restore the “Mexico City Policy” to block Americans’ tax dollars from going to foreign organizations that perform or actively support abortions.
Sadly, America is one of a small handful of nations, including China and North Korea, that allows late-term abortion on demand up to the moment of birth. Last year, House Republicans passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The legislation, which I coauthored, requires health care professionals who are present when a baby survives an attempted abortion to provide the same degree of care that would reasonably be given to any other infant born alive at the same age, and ensure the child is immediately admitted to a hospital.
Pregnancy resource centers play a vital role in defending the unborn. I’ll never forget the time I met a courageous woman from south central Missouri who bravely defended the lives of her unborn babies when she was pressured into an abortion. She was incredibly grateful to have a resource like the Rolla Pregnancy Center, which supported and helped her carry her twins to term. I have spent time at the Rolla Pregnancy Center and Birthright of Cape Girardeau, and I can tell you firsthand that they are doing an incredible job protecting unborn babies and helping mothers.
It is absolutely unacceptable that we saw a major increase in attacks against pregnancy centers – as well as churches and pro-life organizations – after the draft of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling was leaked. We saw pro-abortion vandalism, intimidation, and violence – including fire bombings. As a staunch advocate for pregnancy resource centers, I coauthored a resolution condemning these despicable attacks. And earlier this year, the House passed legislation I led to block a proposed Biden-Harris administration rule that would cut funding for pregnancy resource centers and could result in pregnant women losing access to maternal services that are critical to both the health of the mother and unborn child.
I’m incredibly grateful to the generations of Americans who have dedicated so much to defending the most vulnerable members of society. We must continue working every day to win hearts and minds that every life has value. As your voice in Washington, you can rest assured that I will always fight tooth and nail to protect the unborn.
