Former Howell County Surveyor, Ralph Riggs had the distinct honor of presenting his brother, Ray Riggs, with the prestigious Robert E. Myers Memorial Service Award at the 69th Annual Meeting of the Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS) on Friday, October 2nd.
The Robert E. Myers Memorial Service Award, established in 1990, recognizes an MSPS member who has demonstrated exemplary service, leadership, and dedication to the surveying profession and the Society.
The award is named in memory of Robert E. Myers, Missouri’s first State Land Surveyor, whose leadership and vision helped establish the Missouri Land Survey Authority, now known as the Missouri Land Survey Program. His contributions helped shape the surveying profession in Missouri and left a lasting legacy.
“Having spent much of my own life in the surveying profession, I understand the dedication and commitment required to earn this recognition,” said Ralph Riggs. “But having the opportunity to present this award to my own brother made the occasion especially meaningful. Ray has devoted many years to serving the surveying profession, and I couldn’t be prouder of him. He has served as a board member, served on several committees and as President of the Society.
In accepting the award, Ray expressed both surprise and humility, stating that he felt many others were equally deserving of the recognition. He also reflected on his personal friendship with Robert E. Myers, whom he remembered as a giant in the surveying profession and a highly respected leader.
“Ray has always been modest about his accomplishments, but those who know him recognize the years of hard work, professionalism, and dedication he has contributed,” Ralph added. “It’s not every day that you get to publicly recognize your own brother for a lifetime of service to a profession you both love. This was truly a special moment for me.”
