19-Year-Old From Mountain View Charged for First-Degree Murder

Mountain View, MO. – As part of an investigation of a fire and death in Mountain View, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Jacob D. Hearne, 19, of Mountain View.

The investigation in question involves the death of Phyllis Schweinel, 62, of Mountain View. Law enforcement found Schweinel dead in her home Wednesday afternoon, April 19th, 2022.

Hearne confessed to the murder, and has been arrested to be charged with first-degree murder, first-degree arson, and two counts of armed criminal action.

Phyllis Schweinel is the grandmother of Jacob Hearne, both of which had been living together for quite some time. According to testimony from Hearne, they had been arguing a lot lately and becoming emotionally unstable. Hearne went further to suggest that his grandmother had requested his assistance in ending her life, took prescription pills, and passed out not long before Hearne set fire to their trailer.
