The West Plains Sunrise Rotary Club’s 19th Annual Tom Smith Spring Golf Classic, was held on May 29th, at the North Terra Golf Course to benefit the Rotary Youth Backpack program.
The West Plains Rotary Backpack Program is a joint venture through West Plains Sunrise Rotary Club and West Plains Noon Rotary Club, serving area elementary age kids by sending a pack of food home each weekend to help kids who might not have enough food at home. The Rotary Backpack Program assists by sending home a pack of easy to prepare meals and snacks that help get kids much needed nutrition on the weekends.
The Rotary Backpack Program has grown every year. The program focuses on need at the elementary level, and currently serves 6 area schools.
In this year’s tournament, winning the Championship Flight with a score of 57 were Dylan White, Jerome Haynes, and Tyler Smith, second place with a score of 61 was Mike Finley, Rick Hall, and Jimmy Harper, and coming in third place with a score of 62 was Weston Gant, Lance Coffman, and Dylan Gale. In the Rotary Flight, first place with a 70 went to Gary Trail, Bob Frey, and Lou Citro, second place with a 70 was Jered Smith, Brad Simpson, and Sommer Smith and third place with a 71 went to Calvin Romans, Josh Parker, and Farrell Graves.
