2023 Illegal Elk Killing Leads to Three Men Being Charged

Jefferson City, MO. – In November of 2023, a mature bull elk was found shot dead in Shannon County. Three men have been charged in relation to this poaching event, and have also received charges related to killing deer without telechecking.

This information was formally released by the Missouri Department of Conservation, and while it has been stated that the three men being charged in the crime are from Bon Terre, MO., no other information on their identities has been released.

In addition to having killed a mature bull elk and leaving the corpse to rot, the trio were found to be in possession of deer that were not checked in and have received charges related to that.

At the time of the discovery of the elk corpse, a cash reward was posted for information leading to an arrest.
