West Plains, MO – The annual Dog Jog 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk is set to return on Saturday, June 7, offering participants the chance to enjoy a morning of exercise and fun with or without their four-legged companions. Now in its 22nd year, the Dog Jog serves as a fundraiser for the West Plains Running Club and the Zizzer Cross Country team, supporting local youth athletics and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.
This year, the event will take place at a new location, Galloway Park in West Plains, providing a safer and more scenic race course for participants and their pets. In previous years, the event was held at the fairgrounds, but the change in venue aims to enhance the experience for runners and walkers alike.
Race day registration and pre-registration number pick-up will begin at 7:00 a.m., with the race officially starting at 8:00 a.m. Participants can choose between the 5K race or the 1-mile fun run/walk, making it accessible for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Both options have a registration fee of $25.
The event typically attracts between 75 and 100 participants each year, offering a welcoming and energetic atmosphere for both seasoned runners and casual walkers.
All pre-registered participants will receive an event t-shirt, with shirts available on a first-come, first-served basis for those registering after May 26. Alongside the main race, there will be overall and age division awards, as well as a variety of door prizes and post-race refreshments.
Organizers emphasize that the Dog Jog is not just about racing—it’s a community tradition that brings people and pets together for a good cause. Participants are welcome to complete the course with or without a dog.
