West Plains, MO. – In spring 2020, WPCA was awarded a grant from the West Plains Community Development Grant Program to develop the “Ozarks Deep: Art & Culture Trails“ in West Plains. This ongoing program is meant to expand the cultural arts in the area, increasing tourism capacity and to bring more adhesion to the local community.
The first step to this program is known as the Ozarks Deep: Story Trail. For this, the West Plains Story Tour will be started.
The “West Plains Story Tour” is a guided bus tour of downtown West Plains, created by local residents deeply connected to the history and stories of the region. Building on that foundation, WPCA worked with local artists, historians, tradition bearers, and storytellers to combine existing material with new narratives and additional tour sites, to include more depth, more voices, and more stories. Tour sites include historically significant locations in the downtown area. The stories demonstrate continuity through context.
The West Plains Council on the Arts will host a screening of this program during the Old Time Music Ozarks Heritage festival on June 3 & 4 in the Magnolia Room at the West Plains Civic Center in West Plains.
