West Plains, MO. – A West Plains man has been arrested for the possession and promotion of child pornography on Wednesday.
On November 1, 2023, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Dwane M. Porter on the charges of 1st-degree promoting child pornography, and possession of child pornography – 2nd or subsequent offense or possession of more than 20 pictures, one film, or videotape following an investigation that began in August.
According to the probable cause statement, on August 7, 2023, law enforcement investigators were conducting an online investigation for offenders sharing child porn. During the investigation, a video of child porn was learned to have come from a device at the home of Porter.
On November 1, 2023, officers served a search warrant at Porter’s residence and located a computer that had the previous video and a second video of child porn with different children. The statement says that Porter admitted to downloading, sharing, and viewing the videos in an interview.
Porter was held in the Howell County Jail and released on Nov. 2, 2023, on a $50,000 surety bond. The accused is scheduled to return to court on Monday, November 13th for a bond appearance hearing.
