The director of HCEM, Mike Coldiron, issued an address regarding their efforts over the past few days.

As Water is starting to recede, I would like to take a moment to say thanks All the First Responders, Fire, Police the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Water Patrol, Missouri Department of Conservation and 911 Communications for their Rapid Responses to rescuing flood victims. Roughly we had around 35 water rescues within Howell County and sadly, we had 2 people perish within the City of West Plains in these devastating waters. And to our Howell County Commissioners and their crews who have worked effortlessly on making roads passable all weekend, big thanks, please be patient as they work to restore the county roads and bridges, as it will take some time. We have been assessing damages and working with Missouri State Emergency Management in recovery efforts. Meanwhile we ask folks who have had damages to their homes in the county as a result to flooding, to dial 211 to report your damage or needs. Also, for anyone needing immediate assistance, can contact the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767.

Remember, if you still see water flowing across a low water crossing don’t attempt crossing it, water can mask the roads erosion, and you could become stuck or worse.

Everyone be safe

Howell County Emergency Management Director,

Mike Coldiron
