Thousands of Missourians continue to wait for insurance checks related to 2025 severe weather.  Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance Director Angela Nelson says over a quarter of million insurance claims were filed last year related to severe weather.  She says so far, insurance companies have paid out $2.9 billion dollars in claims, mostly for private property damage.  She says, however, thousands of residents are still waiting and are frustrated with the process.  The DCI reports more than four thousand residents have filed formal complaints, about the wait time, adjusters, and low estimates of damage.  Nelson says given the scale of damage, it could take two-to-three years for insurance checks to arrive.

The DCI is releasing additional data from the deadly tornado that hit St. Louis on May 16, 2025.  Nelson says there were 10-thousand insurance claims filed from the St. Louis area alone.  Companies have paid out $475 million so far.  Nelson says complicating the St. Louis tornado recovery is the fact that 70% of the disaster victims did not have private property insurance.  She says in addition, due to the scale of the damage, the recovery is likely to be slower due to tight resources and demands on local contractors.

Nelson says residents can find additional information on www.insurance.mo.gov.
