SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Four students from the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) business club at Missouri State University-West Plains placed in competitions offered by the PBL State Leadership Conference this spring.
Once again, the conference took place virtually April 9-10 due to COVID-19, said Dr. Ed Birdyshaw, PBL faculty adviser and associate professor of economics at Missouri State-West Plains.
Competitive events were held throughout the semester and culminated during the conference, he added. Students from colleges across Missouri competed in the events, he said.
Cheyenne Cavitt, West Plains, placed second in Impromptu Speaking.
Elaine Vaughan, West Plains, placed first in Organizational Behavior and Leadership, and fifth place in Management Concepts.
Joseph Grant, Willow Springs, placed first in Computer Concepts and Information Management, and third in Programming Concepts
Cynthia Peak, Willow Springs, placed second in Hospitality Management and third in Information Management.
All four have qualified for competitions at the PBL National Leadership Experience, which also will be held virtually June 24-27 due to COVID-19.
PBL is a career and technical student organization that includes divisions at the middle school, high school, collegiate and professional levels in all 50 states.
