Affordable Housing Program Grant Awarded To West Plains Housing Authority

West Plains, MO. – On February 27, 2024, the West Plains Housing Authority received a grant to help local families find safe, affordable homes. 

The Competitive Affordable Housing Program grant was awarded to the WPHA by the West Plains Bank and Trust Company and The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Monies. The amount of this grant was $657,000. This money is being invested in the Walnut Grove Apartments. This is a 74-unit complex, located at 302 Walnut Street, West Plains, Mo.

This project will include many positive changes to the apartments, such as the installation of vinyl plank flooring and a cove base in a six-story high-rise. They also plan on making upgrades to the current plumbing and lighting setups, as well as, improvements to the surrounding landscape. The grant money was rewarded to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families and the community as a whole. 

The FHLB Des Monies has partnered up with local businesses since 1990 to help raise and grant money to those in need. They have raised over $735 million to help more than 92,000 families. The money raised for these grants is a mixture of volunteer contributions and 10% of the FHLB annual net income.
