American Red Cross Opens Shelters and Respite Centers Across Missouri Following Severe Weather

The American Red Cross has opened a shelter in Phelps County and St. Louis County and respite centers across the state for residents affected by severe weather which severely damaged homes, uprooted trees, and left many without power.

  • St Louis County: North County Rec Plex, 2577 Redman Avenue, St Louis MO 63136

Respite centers are at the following locations:

  • Franklin County: South Point Elementary, 4328 St Johns Road, Washington, MO 63090
  • Howell County: FEMA shelter at the Middle School, 730 E Olden, West Plains, MO 65775, Hours 11am-4pm

Shelters have overnight capabilities whereas respite centers are places open during the day for affected residents. If the need arises some respite centers may be converted into shelters and additional shelters and centers may be opened. The role of the Red Cross in any disaster is to focus on addressing the immediate needs of those affected. The Red Cross is coordinating with community, government, and emergency management officials to determine assistance needed.

Identification and/or proof of residency is NOT required to be admitted to a Red Cross shelter.
