MOUNTAIN HOME, AR – The Baxter County Library will be continuing its Read | Write | Ignite Literary Series with an Ozark Literary Afternoon on Tuesday, May 2 from 2pm – 4pm with Dr. Phillip Howerton and journalist George Jared.
In the first hour of this Ozark Literary Afternoon, Dr. Howerton, the editor and compiler of The Literature of the Ozarks, will be reading excerpts from the book Wild Muse: Ozarks Nature Poetry. Created by Dr. Howerton and his wife in 2019, Cornerpost Press is a publishing company specializing in writing that explores the complexity of the Ozarks and has released Wild Muse: Ozarks Nature Poetry. Combining the best aspects of chapbooks and anthologies, this “chapthology” features extensive selections from the work of nine widely published Ozarks poets. Dr. Howerton is a Professor of English at Missouri State University-West Plains.
In the second hour, George Jared, an award-winning journalist and true crime author who has covered numerous criminal cases throughout the years, will be joining us to discuss his newest book Silent Silhouette. Most well-known for his writing about the West Memphis Three, Jared has written more news stories about the West Memphis Three case than any journalist in the world. Jared has won numerous accolades including 11 first-place awards with Associated Press Managing Editors and Arkansas Press Association for investigative journalism, feature writing, spot news, headline writing, and others.
