JEFFERSON CITY – On Thursday March 27, firefighters from across Missouri will gather at the Capitol for Fire Fighters Day, an annual recognition of the importance of the fire service in protecting Missourians and their property. This year’s ceremony follows the heroic and indefatigable efforts of fire fighters across Missouri to battle hundreds of wildland fires as dry vegetation, low relative humidity values and strong winds fanned far more natural cover fires than in any year in recent memory. Strong mutual aid cooperation among fire service agencies was essential in fighting the fires. Incident support teams organized to relieve overburdened personnel were also played an important role.
Thursday’s ceremony will also celebrate the essential roles of 911 telecommunicators and fire fighter spouses in supporting the fire service.
