Applications for funding to support tourism projects in West Plains through a Community Development Grant program is now open and available online at westplains.net.
The application can be found on the City’s landing page under “Community Headlines” and includes a complete list of guidelines, the scoring rubric, and frequently asked questions.
The program was developed to utilize funds from the City of West Plains’ Hotel/Motel Tax, with the intention of promoting tourism and economic development in West Plains. Applications will be submitted to the Board of Tourism, who will vote on the projects and make recommendations to the West Plains City Council. The deadline for submission is at 4 p.m. Friday, March 20.
The applications will be ranked based on project characteristics, organizational capacity, budget, project benefits, project specifics, and performance indicators. Grant funds may be used for a variety of expenses to support the project, including advertising, event overhead, and virtually any event-related expense. Restricted expenses include the purchase of alcohol, illegal activities, facility construction, or any staffing expenses not directly related to the project.
Community Services Director Todd Shanks said the intent of the program is to not only support events in West Plains that brings visitors, but also supports projects that enhance the visitor experience to the area.
Shanks encourages any interested parties to read over the application packet thoroughly before applying. Submissions can be dropped off at City Hall to his attention, or emailed to him at todd.shanks@westplains.net.
