As Cinco De Mayo Starts, Law Enforcement Agencies Increase Activity

Mountain Home, AR. – The Mountain Home Police Department is urging those who wish to celebrate as a part of Cinco De Mayo to be careful when drinking, and to plan ahead if you plan to take part in holiday festivities.

This comes as a way to encourage individuals who are thinking of drinking and driving to think twice, with the Police Department ramping up activities starting today, May 5th, through the end of this weekend. Increased activities include additional officers on duty at random times, possible checkpoints in various areas, and regular patrol in certain high-traffic areas.

As we get into the holiday weekend, it’s important to know that just during last weekend, the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped 8 individuals, with intoxication-related charges following. During the holiday weekend, consumption of beer and tequila increases often across the board nationally by at least1 15%, with the amount increasing drastically in certain locations and areas.

With Mountain Home teaming with the National Highway Administration to increase patrols, it wouldn’t be a far-fetched assumption that many other towns will likely also be increasing patrols.
